February 24 :: Numbers 7-8; Mark 4:21-41

Numbers 8:15-16

"After you have purified the Levites and presented them as a wave offering, they are to come to do their work at the Tent of Meeting. They are the Israelites who are to be given wholly to me. I have taken them as my own in place of the firstborn, the first male offspring from every Israelite woman."

Wave offerings - first fruits, waved by the priests (T'nufah in Hebrew) as a solemn and special offering, property of priests once offered.

Is there an equivalent for modern day Levites in Christianity?

  3. Hey Lise, cool idea for a blog. I would actually say that the modern day equivalent of the Levites is really Christ. Hebrews talks about how Jesus perfectly fulfills the Levitical priesthood, offering Himself as the sacrifice for our sins (Hebrews 8 gives a really good overview). Another aspect of the Levites, their ability to enter the temple and approach God, now extends to all believers. So we see the curtain in the temple being torn at Jesus's death, and the record of our sins being torn with it.
