May 31 :: 2 Chronicles 13-14; John 12:1-26

 Jesus the protector.

John 12:3-8

Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected, "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages." He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

"Leave her alone," Jesus replied. " It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial. You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."

May 30 :: 2 Chronicles 10-12; John 11:30-57

2 Chronicles 12:7-8 (NIV)

When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, this word of the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured out on Jerusalem through Shishak. They will, however, become subject to him, so that they may learn the difference between serving me and serving the kings of other lands.

May 29 :: 2 Chron 7-9; John 11:1-29

This next passage in my bible is entitled "Jesus Comforts the Sisters" (Mary and Martha; when Lazarus dies). I thought this was interesting. Check this out and see if perhaps this teaches you in particular something new about comforting others.

John 11:21-27

"Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask."

Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."

Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

"Yes, Lord," she told him, "I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world."

May 28 :: 2 Chron 4-6; John 10:24-42

The trumpet is introduced into worhsip...

2 Chronicles 5:13-14

The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang:

"He is good; his love endures forever."

Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud, and the priests could not perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the temple of God.

Something about this scripture really stands out to me, but I can't pinpoint what it is. Any ideas?

May 27 :: 2 Chron 1-3; John 10:1-23

2 CHRONICLES

- Originally 1 Chronicles and 2 Chronicles were one book
- Mostly records reign of King Solomon (971-931 B.C.)
- Also records kings of Judah from Rehoboam to Zedekiah (931-586 B.C. respectively)
- The theme of disobedience to the Mosaic Law causes the Babylonian captivity

Around 970 BC..........

2 Chronicles 3:5-7

He (Solomon) overlaid the inside with pure gold. He paneled the main hall with pine and covered it with fine gold and decorated it with palm tree and chain designs. He adorned the temple with precious stones. And the gold he used was gold of Parvaim. He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls.

A little over a thousand years later..........

John 10:23

It was winter, and Jesus was in the temple area walking in Solomon's Colonnade.
